Books FOR SALE
The West Torrens Historical Society and the City of West Torrens have published a 48-page illustrated book on the old and new suburb names of our Council area. Since 1853 there have been more than 100 suburb names in the district - many are no longer used. Have you heard of Weeroopa, Twickenham, Meldreth Park, Horncastle, Grey, Leackly, Marshfield or Ellenville?
Much research has been done into the derivation and exact localities of these former suburbs along with those that we know today. This book is available for $5 (postage extra) from the West Torrens Historical Society Inc, PO Box 43 Marleston SA 5033 or by telephoning 83569768 or 84433380.

The Scent of Eucalyptus Walk: an historical walk of Barbara Hanrahan’s Thebarton is an update of a booklet prepared by Friends of the Thebarton Library, Thebarton Historical Society University of South Australia, 1994. On this walk you will visit places which were important to Barbara Hanrahan as she grew up in the 1940s and early 1950s. The walk seeks to give you an impression of how the suburbs of Thebarton and Mile End would have appeared in those days. It was an environment which Barbara described so poetically and with incisive accuracy in her semi-autobiographical book The Scent of Eucalyptus.
